But after taking <a href="https://cherylo.ca/">Cheryl O</a>'s course last year I actually ended up with paintings I was very pleased with! I have posted a couple of others, and here are two more, now hanging at the<a href="https://www.southamptonartscentre.com/"> Southampton Gallery</a>. I'm late posting them by several months, but I still wanted to share this different style that I had so much fun with! The composition involved a high horizon, and an unusual perspective, as well as some abstract and geometric shapes.</b></span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXapSGq89TGgU2Dopq-6WeWIeIneteU0A7C2YcNDZUsoYQ9yF_B1Qa7nsnONQThtVO4oFUUTSGnV1j1kwuGB67QuvWqadiqSrzv7I4NpYak3Om47-SCUQvYFBjyo50ec1zpVemGcLIh4aSEG_Mw-LoLbZ48_Ni8baT3QQJWv2DN0Lb4L6Sh1z_QV21iSih/s1537/A%20Morning%20for%20Fishing%20small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1537" data-original-width="1231" height="501" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXapSGq89TGgU2Dopq-6WeWIeIneteU0A7C2YcNDZUsoYQ9yF_B1Qa7nsnONQThtVO4oFUUTSGnV1j1kwuGB67QuvWqadiqSrzv7I4NpYak3Om47-SCUQvYFBjyo50ec1zpVemGcLIh4aSEG_Mw-LoLbZ48_Ni8baT3QQJWv2DN0Lb4L6Sh1z_QV21iSih/w401-h501/A%20Morning%20for%20Fishing%20small.jpg" width="401" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"A Morning for Fishing"<br />acrylic<br />20 x 16<br /><br /></b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-JOVvkncOCR9ntvvJ1UPc0DstwSt5v3lP3IMzBULF8QLJEfMVl2jBB2z9iGeDaJTP_oGLcp4xcCTEbJfHAsQXTvduCEqyoHEkw10yGPSu2d6NQsbtCR9Ymrdspc79ybMKpUFALuhvQpJvjPg__sA_lk3_4XKGAXix_BXl9piYlT5N3CkZNDLfOV1pXR4/s1546/Sunset%20Sail%20small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1546" data-original-width="1239" height="507" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-JOVvkncOCR9ntvvJ1UPc0DstwSt5v3lP3IMzBULF8QLJEfMVl2jBB2z9iGeDaJTP_oGLcp4xcCTEbJfHAsQXTvduCEqyoHEkw10yGPSu2d6NQsbtCR9Ymrdspc79ybMKpUFALuhvQpJvjPg__sA_lk3_4XKGAXix_BXl9piYlT5N3CkZNDLfOV1pXR4/w405-h507/Sunset%20Sail%20small.jpg" width="405" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"Sunset Sail"<br />acrylic<br />20 x 16</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p>Kathie Wrighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13816347020319539687noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9209460445013126672.post-85543095419462874302023-11-28T10:41:00.002-05:002023-11-28T10:41:20.200-05:00Fun paintings at the Christmas Store<p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"><b> I hope to create more of these fun pieces in the future! These are two that came out of that course, which are quite unusual for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed working on something new. They are a stylized and abstracted view of landscapes, with bright and sometimes unusual colours. These are now on display at the Saugeen Artists Guild's Christmas pop-up store, which "materializes" in Hanover every year, after a long busy week setting it up, and runs from November 3 until December 23. There are 20 artists with varied products, all unique and handmade. You can find us (and many of my paintings) at 189 10th St. Hanover. </span></b></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqL-ShPRyLTiv0QCY5zkyrX_rbqEkXXyMuwsLdXmvhgqtVXimiF-FnBtFESs_sfLWi-IF8OMNyLpOviE1uulDyQRqNnOwuS5Dukc_2_m3vQ1KPAjkofruIKN7bROFdTzqb4qkcKpcp11RqFGPTr3EZ9PGuQC1OgNYcXYoCWyi8d27V93MZo4zLuSQMzueW/s1586/Queen%20Anne's%20Country%20small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1586" data-original-width="1188" height="552" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqL-ShPRyLTiv0QCY5zkyrX_rbqEkXXyMuwsLdXmvhgqtVXimiF-FnBtFESs_sfLWi-IF8OMNyLpOviE1uulDyQRqNnOwuS5Dukc_2_m3vQ1KPAjkofruIKN7bROFdTzqb4qkcKpcp11RqFGPTr3EZ9PGuQC1OgNYcXYoCWyi8d27V93MZo4zLuSQMzueW/w414-h552/Queen%20Anne's%20Country%20small.jpg" width="414" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b><br />"Queen Annes' Country"<br />acrylic<br />12 x 16</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_GDBW_CRpMM7tn0JrWrUpWlu-aZmIHGSURfWSzx9s863mz_orrliGzyiiLaoL6cPz4jan57u4wUAq84tBD8sE-S9jqyWxm8JaMic2t5xWQdNZYqKVkZNi6cx_MTf90R6zd1N5gKvIy2Nc1_uxxREkOf7JmV7PXy2paYFu62aFpZbWZ7TNYUoLDku_ntzQ/s1615/Farther%20In%20%20small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1615" data-original-width="1241" height="522" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_GDBW_CRpMM7tn0JrWrUpWlu-aZmIHGSURfWSzx9s863mz_orrliGzyiiLaoL6cPz4jan57u4wUAq84tBD8sE-S9jqyWxm8JaMic2t5xWQdNZYqKVkZNi6cx_MTf90R6zd1N5gKvIy2Nc1_uxxREkOf7JmV7PXy2paYFu62aFpZbWZ7TNYUoLDku_ntzQ/w400-h522/Farther%20In%20%20small.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><b><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">"Farther In"<br />acrylic<br />12 x 16</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p>Kathie Wrighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13816347020319539687noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9209460445013126672.post-1799772267085278452023-10-23T18:44:00.000-04:002023-10-23T18:44:10.074-04:00A Simple Life..........<span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"><b>.....is the title of this painting, which was such a delight to work on. I love adding little buildings with their tiny windows and slanted slightly wonky roofs. I chose this image from a website that gives free images to artists, and when I looked further, it turned out to be an authentic pioneer village in the U.S. No wonder I liked it!

Painting number 3 (of 2023) is called "In Green Pastures", because it reminds me of Psalm 23, "He makes me lie down in green pastures". This scene is so peaceful, as if the farmer is inside having a meal or possibly a nap, since the tractor is quiet and waiting. The sheep are happily grazing, protected by the fences and knowing their shepherd/farmer is looking after them. </span><span style="font-family: arial;">I am a sheep who looks to the Shepherd. </span><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></b></span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jv1uE5_SfebR7sRKmirAFrvYlxm1JV2979FIY7en_KYRbj6-fXnT1385-7kC_q_ogaSX7l1Z-dDoxs9r6Seq48zWm1K9XYlmyufy_d5gFS8rJgHwT5wO1f0MIxUZwC-Aw7UT3ijxhaNkscyCJCVVgGwAEVoBNKzMxYcweWYn_2V32-VMyeO9LGXlnQ/s2627/In%20Green%20Pastures%20small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="881" data-original-width="2627" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jv1uE5_SfebR7sRKmirAFrvYlxm1JV2979FIY7en_KYRbj6-fXnT1385-7kC_q_ogaSX7l1Z-dDoxs9r6Seq48zWm1K9XYlmyufy_d5gFS8rJgHwT5wO1f0MIxUZwC-Aw7UT3ijxhaNkscyCJCVVgGwAEVoBNKzMxYcweWYn_2V32-VMyeO9LGXlnQ/w554-h185/In%20Green%20Pastures%20small.jpg" width="554" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"In Green Pastures"<br />acrylic<br />12 x 36<br /><br /></b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Kathie Wrighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13816347020319539687noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9209460445013126672.post-72996845443076116712023-03-12T16:49:00.000-04:002023-03-12T16:49:07.303-04:00Changing Seasons<p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"><b> While staring at my latest paintings and deciding which to post after a long stretch of not posting at all........ two popped out at me because they pointed out the change of the seasons in our little corner of the world. I have noticed that many folks enjoy a bit of whimsy in the work they choose, which I am glad to incorporate. The first two are done in that style, which comes easily to me. The third is an animal portrait, which is so different! That kind of painting needs to be accurate, because we all know how a cat (or a dog or a cow) is supposed to look. If a nose is out of place, we instantly recognize that something isn't right, and we can end up focusing on that detail. Animal faces are a lot of fun to do though. After I have the drawing done in chalk on a dark background, I like to do the eyes first. They are so important! And then it feels like they follow me as I paint the rest of the face. </b> </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzXv0rlXWuq_81dtBz8Pm6QO3wjwHRpiAGqrqT-Do464uHzu55kBnJYh7yt6GkbO-5DnxEc-WeJx9cQWzSdbP49PJqc9Bxk_eEgEm-L3Ri6P3ebAXvqrXEXrEsWL7sNZab7mwuoFAPIirsWHTr3kVeVRFsSYCZz7eFg1xeiUFYRMYYsZLGZzMO8g8rYg=s606" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="432" data-original-width="606" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjzXv0rlXWuq_81dtBz8Pm6QO3wjwHRpiAGqrqT-Do464uHzu55kBnJYh7yt6GkbO-5DnxEc-WeJx9cQWzSdbP49PJqc9Bxk_eEgEm-L3Ri6P3ebAXvqrXEXrEsWL7sNZab7mwuoFAPIirsWHTr3kVeVRFsSYCZz7eFg1xeiUFYRMYYsZLGZzMO8g8rYg=w423-h301" width="423" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"Poppyville"</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>acrylic</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>20 x 28</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhd6fUzU84MiPmrFmCBXzS9p8d2CTax-4O1JtHT1DWDntwuRa0BHQrS-YOESj9M_xMwByVaswPnrDSJTZTXZAcCtsoQJLtA_a_o_xsLVVuvxiS8qBWG_Lz0ClVHvcaw2CyVuaxNvSEeDqguIXPF5g8a3yyGi7OfEbkKYqFezkn4W1BhQrz4Xp2nmhv78g=s593" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="442" data-original-width="593" height="403" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhd6fUzU84MiPmrFmCBXzS9p8d2CTax-4O1JtHT1DWDntwuRa0BHQrS-YOESj9M_xMwByVaswPnrDSJTZTXZAcCtsoQJLtA_a_o_xsLVVuvxiS8qBWG_Lz0ClVHvcaw2CyVuaxNvSEeDqguIXPF5g8a3yyGi7OfEbkKYqFezkn4W1BhQrz4Xp2nmhv78g=w540-h403" width="540" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"Taking the Scenic Route"<br />acrylic<br />30 x 40</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgpGDAZx5e2vEvAkzAvAVjoXPDl5PhLJvsrsqUBIRhDxScWwgC4_qKCtGPvIpc3uTm5jrJf7H9o_K5ofQ9xvLPECevpOJp7H14R9DI8-upoUTEr91s-cKUaBvLR2BgtsIh-EiDwokWFSc5ijRK6GqlM601FshwVDl5cPtE_m2Z80MGE_J1QNuGHSQczJw=s513" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="510" data-original-width="513" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgpGDAZx5e2vEvAkzAvAVjoXPDl5PhLJvsrsqUBIRhDxScWwgC4_qKCtGPvIpc3uTm5jrJf7H9o_K5ofQ9xvLPECevpOJp7H14R9DI8-upoUTEr91s-cKUaBvLR2BgtsIh-EiDwokWFSc5ijRK6GqlM601FshwVDl5cPtE_m2Z80MGE_J1QNuGHSQczJw=s320" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><b>"Louie"<br />acrylic<br />12 x 12</b></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><br /></p>Kathie Wrighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13816347020319539687noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9209460445013126672.post-76236398104502682232021-11-14T18:27:00.002-05:002021-11-14T18:42:50.358-05:00The Saugeen Artists are back in business..........<p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: large;"> <b>A Christmas gallery and gift shop is ready for customers to come and enjoy the work of 22 artists from the Saugeen Artists Guild, based in Hanover, Ontario. So it seemed appropriate to post one of my new paintings completed this past winter, called "Sideroad Sunrise". I don't mind looking back at those days when the fields were covered with a thick white blanket, because I know that spring really is here now! This scene is one of a farm I have seen for years when I drive into Neustadt. It appeals to me because of the view looking up to a hill with overlapping buildings and silos and lots of fences meandering around the property. I may be inspired to do another painting of this scene based on a new season with more green than white. Happy spring!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGF6qkT2dnA4E5kUHTX4B250CAsFRCTh02jPZEnNvMVvUA9WH9fJRyDir2ZU-dLMc4cDD3vj2dLSuJ_GEyrNStBc1rOaA4M8PGXPfJqgSCyYnsKN2Lms0Ot92DJxJmWZ9Wl_O5ZjbUx1We/s600/copies+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="600" height="448" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGF6qkT2dnA4E5kUHTX4B250CAsFRCTh02jPZEnNvMVvUA9WH9fJRyDir2ZU-dLMc4cDD3vj2dLSuJ_GEyrNStBc1rOaA4M8PGXPfJqgSCyYnsKN2Lms0Ot92DJxJmWZ9Wl_O5ZjbUx1We/w450-h448/copies+%25281%2529.JPG" width="450" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><b><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">"Sideroad Sunrise"<br />acrylic<br />24 x 24</span></b></td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p>Kathie Wrighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13816347020319539687noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9209460445013126672.post-68002442648391281832021-03-10T12:18:00.001-05:002021-03-10T12:18:58.250-05:00Feathered Friends<p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"> Two fun bird collages came to life in my studio this winter, a commission that came about through the Saugeen Artists Guild online store. Check out this opportunity to purchase paintings, jewelry and other handmade items online from several artists at <a href="https://saugeen-artists.square.site/ " target="_blank">https://saugeen-artists.square.site/ </a> </span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: medium;">These two feathered friends have been delivered to their new home where they join a lovely painting in a similar style. When I painted these, I deliberately left a lot of original white canvas spaces and added coloured bands of bright warm colours that matched the client's original painting. Normally I start with a very dark underpainting and add many layers that get brighter and brighter until I add the final highlights.
