"Soulmates"
My latest commission is done, a painting that commemorates two special parents who were indeed "Soulmates". It was very special to be a part of that process! It will be travelling to Calgary this week.

Summer painting commissions!
My summer commissions were quite varied! The first was a real estate house portrait. (These are such fun!)
The next ones were even more fun, because they were for my two grandsons in Alabama! Wesley will get to know these as he grows up and sees them on his bedroom wall. He is still only 2 months old.
Three-year-old Carson told me which vehicles he wanted painted, and even made suggestions about the details. They are on his playroom wall.
My next commission isn't quite finished, so you can't see it yet.............stay tuned!

It's Cottage Time!
This painting is of the cottage where my brother and I spent most of our summers growing up, near Perth Ontario. It holds happy memories of swimming, boat tours around the lake with Grandpa, picking raspberries, frog-hunting, BB guns, and hammocks. During a cottage painting retreat with Cheryl O, I chose a photo reference from years ago and tried out a style similar to Emily Carr. I thoroughly enjoyed working on it, which has taught me how important it is to choose a photo reference that is meaningful. I doubt I will ever sell it!

Four Months Later..............
The past few months have included a trip to my daughter's new home in Alabama, and my son's wedding! No wonder I haven't kept up with my art activities here........ I have actually been painting during these adventures, and here are the results:
This is a painting I did from a photo I took in Yorkville, Toronto, while I was enjoying an afternoon of gallery-hopping. It has been purchased from the Southampton Art Gallery already, and is now residing in Calgary!
Next came another Yorkville painting. I seem to be taken with the colour red lately.............
This was painted from a photo I took of one of the flower arrangements after my son's wedding. I loved the backlighting.

All of these paintings have been shown at the Southampton Art Gallery. If you are in the area, it would make a worthwhile visit for you to explore their new facilities and see some great art pieces there, including 3D work. Click on the image at the upper right to get to their website.

A different creative pursuit
I did accomplish an artistic endeavour I'm
proud of during
2015, even if I didn't produce many acrylic canvases.
Every
week I created a page for a Faith Art Journal, following a
website called
hiskingdomcome.com. I usually used their
premade scripture verse, and
made a page around it. It was
very rewarding, and I would love to share a
few pages of it
with you, that you might have a small glimpse of my daily
walk with Jesus. I am continuing the idea, with my own
scriptures, for 2016, although I certainly haven't been able to
do one a week so far this time!

2015 Painting Review!
The last six or eight months have been such busy ones for me, with wonderful family times, and many hours spent helping with church renovations in our new location. But I was feeling so unproductive this past year, as far as painting goes! So I took a look at the paintings that I have sold in the past 12 months. I was so surprised to find out that I had sold 21 paintings! They ranged in size from 6" X 6" to 24" X 30". Since the New Year, I've been inspired to clean out my studio thoroughly, and as of tonight I have begun a new painting-- the first in a long time. It will be a series of buildings, which I love to paint.
Here are a few of the paintings that sold in 2015:

Fall painting inspiration!
With a crazy-busy summer behind me, I had the opportunity to attend a week-long paint course in September, led by my talented friend Cheryl O from London. (Check out her website at cherylo.ca) We tried a new style or technique every day for 5 days, and when we weren't painting we were eating royally, laughing, and enjoying the beautiful warm weather, at a cottage near Bayfield. It proved to be a great kickstart to painting this fall. I hope to try a few different styles just for fun in the next few months, and see if I can incorporate something new for my work at the Southampton Gallery. One of the many things I tried was a new red paint, with the pigment PV19. It became the colour of the week, in great demand for those of us who had to borrow it! Here are some photos of the work I tried, some of them copies of other painting references we were learning from:

Here is the whole group of us, with our work-in-progress,
on the last day:
Now I need to play with these fun and different styles! I will post the results here, ASAP.
