This is the end of one of the trails through our beautiful bush.  The light beyond compels me to take photos at this very spot year after year.




"A Shapely Back Alley"
This was the first painting I did while taking a course with instructor Don Cavin this past fall.  I took photos in the back alleys of Southampton, and this view struck me as so interesting, with all the little shapes interconnected in a pleasing way.  The sun shone on one particular apartment, highlighting it as someone's home sweet home.  Don encouraged me to look for shapes in the environment, which seems to be the way I look at the world anyway!





"Autumn Sunrise"
If I go for a morning walk with Winston, I pass this scene.  At a certain time, the sun makes this beautiful shadow from one barn on to another, which is so unusual.  I just had to paint it, and so it became the second painting in Don Cavin's class.  He encouraged me to add the pumpkins!

"Balcony Sunshine"
There is a fascinating back row of apartments behind the Klages Mill in Chesley, where we hold our church meetings.  I have snapped many photos of it in different seasons and different lights.  This line of laundry captured my imagination!  It was the first painting I completed after the course with Don Cavin.

I chose this lovely bloom from dozens of photos I took of a magnolia tree, in the excitement of seeing these early flowers pop out in the spring.
